Lobera reunites with his friend from Moghreb, as Mohun Bagan appoints David Deogracia as assistant coach
Mohun Bagan has parted ways with Jose Francisco Molina and his assistant, Igor Tasevski, as the club has appointed long-term club target Sergio Lobera as the new head coach till the end of the Season. Lobera is coming to India with his new assistant, David Deogracia Marquez, a Spanish UEFA Pro Licence Holder.
Who is David Deogracia?
David excels in identifying and promoting youth talents. His and Lobera's connection began 10 years ago, when the pair were at Moroccan side Moghreb Tètouan. Lobera worked as the head coach, while David was in charge of the U-21 team. Notably, Mohun Bagan's ex Number 10 Hugo Boumous was just 20 that time, and he was playing for the same side, Moghreb.
David started his managerial career in the Early 2000s, when he took charge of Spanish side AD Huracán's Juvenile team. At the same time, he worked with the Cadet squad of UD Las Palmas, where he got his first managerial success, leading the UD Las Palmas reserves to a first-ever promotion to the 4th tier of the Spanish Football System.
He had a successful stint at CF Union Viera, where he was sacked after not fielding a player ordered by the club's Sporting Director, showcasing his character.
In 2014, Deogracia came to Asia, where he took charge of Thailand's legendary Buriram United's reserves side Surin City. Later, he joined Sergio Lobera at Moghreb Tètouan.
In 2017, when Lobera left for ISL side FC Goa, Deogracia left Morocco too and joined Belarus side FC Dynamo Brest, where he was in charge of the U-17 team. After working for 4 years and developing talents, he moved to another Belarusian club, FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk, where he took charge of their U21 team.
In 2023, Deogracia was appointed as the Head of Russian Premier League club FC Orenburg's youth academy, where he impressed everybody. After a weak start to the Orenburg senior team's 23-24 campaign, David was promoted as the head coach of FC Orenburg's senior squad.
In June 2024, his contract was extended, as Orenburg avoided relegation. But the 2nd season was not so smooth, as, in October 2025, he and Orenburg parted ways as the club was winless for 14 games in a row.
Now, he is all set to succeed fellow Spaniard Igor Tasevski as the foreign assistant coach of Mohun Bagan.
David is known for playing 4-3-3, aligning with the attacking mindset of his compatriot Sergio Lobera. He is a familiar name in the Spanish Youth Football Circuit, and his expertise in nurturing young talents will help Lobera find future stars from the Mohun Bagan youth team.
Sergio Lobera finally reunites with his old friend, as they are all set to coach Mohun Bagan after their stint at Moghreb Tètouan!
