Mohun Bagan bids for Abhishek Tekcham Singh as Molina wants highly rated Full back

The transfer season is about to start, and Mohun Bagan has started to make noise in the market.

Having a very balanced and strong squad, coach Molina's message was very clear to the management. Before going on vacation, Molina indicated he didn't want a lot of changes in the squad, but rather some upgrades in current positions.

Mohun Bagan has agreed a deal for a foreign playmaker in Brazilian Robson Robinho, pending medicals. They were also looking for a foreign centre-back, but the club has decided to continue with the warrior-like Tom Aldred.

It's no secret Mohun Bagan has a weakness in the right-back position, and they were looking for a versatile full-back who can fit into multiple positions. Bengaluru FC's Naorem Roshan Singh was an old club target, and Mohun Bagan were advancing in the deal. However, Bengaluru, being the selling club, asked for a record transfer fee, and Mohun Bagan backed away as they felt they could add someone younger with lots of potential.

Punjab FC's Abhishek Tekcham Singh rose to prominence this season. The left-back of Punjab is originally a right-footed player and played his youth career mainly as a right-back. Mohun Bagan's interest in Tekcham grew since the RFDL days.

This season has been a breakthrough for Abhishek in the senior team, where he quite comfortably stole the show and established himself as one of the finest modern full-backs in this country, earning him a debut with the Indian National Team.

As he has just one year left on his contract, Kolkata side Emami East Bengal placed a bid and were discussing a potential move for Tekcham. A few East Bengal sources said the deal was imminent, but Mohun Bagan were observing things closely.

Now, MBFT can confirm that last Saturday, Mohun Bagan officially engaged in club-to-club negotiations for the Punjab FC full-back, where they placed a bid to Punjab, and both clubs are discussing a potential move for the national team debutant.

MBFT understands Mohun Bagan has made contact with the player’s camp too, and Abhishek, despite being an option for East Bengal, would love to join the champions of India if a deal can be struck with his parent club.

However, is a deal agreed yet? It's not done until it's done — as not only East Bengal, but current Super Cup winners FC Goa are also in the race for this Punjab FC star. FC Goa wants to add a new right-back to their ranks, and Abhishek has impressed coach Manolo, who wants the PFC star to become a Gaur.

East Bengal has submitted the best financial package for the Punjab FC player. As a source described, East Bengal is ready to break the Indian transfer record for Abhishek Tekcham. It is believed that if Punjab agrees to a deal with Mohun Bagan, East Bengal is ready to outbid and offer an attractive salary to the player, which may be more tempting than the package Mohun Bagan is offering.

Mohun Bagan doesn't want to break the bank, and they have informed Abhishek that if he wants to become a champion, he can join Mohun Bagan, as a reasonable offer is being placed.

Many feel East Bengal will try to do an “Apuia,” where they aim to outbid Mohun Bagan in the race to get the player’s signature. It can be said East Bengal is still leading the race. However, Mohun Bagan's project is more stable, and like Apuia, Abhishek can establish himself as a starter at Mohun Bagan and become a key figure under Jose Francisco Molina.

Apart from Abhishek, Mohun Bagan is in constant negotiations with Mumbai City FC for Mehtab Singh. Both parties are in talks, but a breakthrough has not yet been reached regarding the transfer fee. The situation is developing, and Mehtab remains a priority for Mohun Bagan.
