In January 2025, Sources told MBFT, Mohun Bagan are likely to trigger the extension clause in Tom Aldred's contract. But, around April, things took a turn, as, after qualifying for ACL 2, Mohun Bagan management tried their luck in bringing in a new foreign centre back to the club, who has been on the club's shortlist for at least 2-3 years now. The deal was difficult, and sources reveal that the player is currently not interested in moving to India.
Mohun Bagan then shifted their focus to retaining Tom Aldred, as they feel retaining Tom after a brilliant season he had will be a no-brainer. Tom had offers from at least 3 ISL clubs, including ISL Cup runner-up Bengaluru FC. But, Tom and Mohun Bagan had a one-year extension clause, and, when on 9th May Mohun Bagan indicated they wanted to exercise the extension after speaking with Head Coach Molina, Tom didn't take a second to give a Yes. Despite chasing a different name, Mohun Bagan made a sensible decision, where they are banking on the super successful defensive duo of Tom Aldred and Alberto Rodriguez.
In another news, as we revealed in February, we can again confirm, Mohun Bagan are in market for Indian defenders, and, Mehtab Singh of Mumbai City FC is a target for the club. Mehtab is currently a key figure in the Mumbai setup, and, it's a difficult deal to pull off. Mehtab has also gathered interest from two more ISL sides, amongst them, East Bengal has expressed a strong interest in acquiring the service of the India international.
The Mehtab Singh deal is a complicated one, as, he has still a valid contract with Mumbai, and, it's not clear, in which term, Mumbai want to sell their main Indian defender. The deal is still not advanced, and, this is a deal, where we have to wait patiently to see how it develops.
MBFT exclusively reported in January that Jose Francisco Molina has an extension clause in his contract, which can be mutually triggered if he can win the ISL double. Mohun Bagan, in a historic campaign, has won the ISL double, and MBFT understands, Jose Francisco Molina's contract extension has been officially triggered now for one more season. It is highly likely, the entire coaching unit will stay with Jose Molina. Molina is heavily involved in the team building with a focus on retaining the existing squad and making a few improvements.
As we confirmed, Robson Robinho to Mohun Bagan is a done deal. It is highly likely, Robson will be the one to replace Greg Stewart in the Mohun Bagan squad, as the club's think tank rates the Brazilian heavily. A source close to Robson has told MBFT, "If he can carry at least 60% of his Bangladesh League form to India, the Bagan strikers will get a plethora of chances".
In February 2024, MBFT revealed Mohun Bagan has reached an agreement with Dimi Petratos to extend his contract for 2 more seasons, which was later announced officially by the club, as Dimi extended his stay till 2026. Amid current uncertainties, MBFT can confirm, Dimi is going to stay at the club for one more season.
Mohun Bagan is planning a contract extension for Jason Cummings, and, club sources, are confident, an agreement should be reached as Jason wants to stay at Bagan. Mohun Bagan has also extended the contract of Suhail Ahmad Bhat, per Khel Now, and MBFT can confirm, the club is in talks with other youngsters to keep them at the club.
