Lallianzuala Chhangte Set to Join Mohun Bagan on a Three-Year Deal
MBFT understands that Lallianzuala Chhangte is set to become a Mohun Bagan player. The Indian international has agreed to sign a three-year contract with the Mariners, with the club holding an option to extend the deal by a further two years.
As MBFT exclusively reported last Monday, Mohun Bagan were already in advanced talks with Mumbai City FC over the transfer. Despite several media reports claiming that the deal had stalled or was off, negotiations never broke down. Discussions continued throughout the week, with a major breakthrough finally being reached on Thursday night.

Mumbai City FC's decision was largely driven by financial considerations. With just one year remaining on Chhangte's contract, the Islanders were keen to remove his salary from their wage bill and eventually agreed to let the winger leave on a free transfer rather than carry his wages for another season.
The move also required a huge commitment from the player. Chhangte accepted a significant pay cut to join Mohun Bagan, making it clear that sporting ambition played a major role in his decision.

Mohun Bagan's interest in Chhangte dates back to 2024, with the club closely monitoring his situation for nearly two years. As MBFT exclusively revealed on 28th January 2026, the Mizo winger was always the Mariners' priority domestic target if he became available in the summer window. Months of planning, patience and negotiations have now brought Mohun Bagan to the verge of completing one of the biggest domestic transfers in recent ISL history.
Mumbai City FC and Chhangte have now officially parted ways, with the club confirming his departure. With that process complete, the focus now shifts to completing the remaining formalities before Mohun Bagan make the signing official.

An official announcement from the Mariners is now expected next week, once the final paperwork is completed.
On the other hand, Mohun Bagan have new talks scheduled with the camp of Hrithik Tiwari, MBFT Understands. Mohun Bagan wants a final call from the goalkeeper, as they plan to close the deal only if the player gives his Green Light on the move. The player is expected to take a decision soon.
