Mohun Bagan SG vs LL Kidderpore SC | CFL Match Review 2026/27

Mohun Bagan settles for a Draw in a heated battle against Kidderpore.

After a convincing 4-0 win in the first match, Mohun Bagan faced LL Kidderpore SC on Thursday.

This is how Mohun Bagan lined up against LL Kidderpore SC in 2nd match of CFL 2026/27:

In the starting XI, Tanmay replaced Abhishek Suryavanshi in the CDM role. The rest of the team remained unchanged.

At 3’ Suhail recovered quickly after a clash and bolted down the left wing to send the ball into the box for Sayan. The ball was cleared for the first corner for the Mariners. 3 minutes later, Keeper Zahid received a back pass and took a bit more time than usual which almost led to a blunder from high pressing. He should have been more aware after last match’s misspass.

LL KDSC kept the pressure up for the first 10 minutes of the game. A minute later, Tuhin advanced down the left and before Raj could come into position, he cut inside and took a powerful shot at goal which zoomed over the post.

Mohun Bagan attempted to get back the ball but miss pass and interceptions resulted in loss of possession early in the game. Suhail made an effort to come to the midfield to get the momentum going for the Green-and-Maroon. In one instance, he was fouled from behind by Biswajit and yellow card was shown. He followed the rotation pattern from central midfield to the box apart from occasional run-ins to catch the backline off-guard. At 15' and 16', Tanmay's long ball and Sayan's through ball to the Kashmiri striker became invalid as the sideline referee signalled offside.

Soon after, Mohun Bagan came back into the game. At 27 minutes after the hydration break, Captain Kiyan took it upon his shoulders and pierced through the right wing with the ball with swift pace, taking on two defenders at the same time. He finally stretched and set up Sandeep with a trailing pass who slots it into the net.

After the first goal, Mohun Bagan stayed in control with more aggression. It showed as the forward players were visibly frustrated in their attempts to double the lead. At 32’, Suhail found Robilal on the left wing, who sent in a cross to Sayan. He smashed it with power, but the placement was right into the keeper's hands.

Sayan himself had a couple of break-throughs. His hunger for scoring led to two chances being wasted where Suhail and Kiyan were free and asking for the ball in the box. He cut in once right in front of goal but his final shot was blocked by Bikramjit.

LLKDSC Keeper, Arnendu, made plenty of outings, especially during counter attacks and corners, which was considerably risky but in reality, prevented Bagan from capitalising on those chances.

Tuhin scores right after the start of the 2nd Half from Suvam's pass that put Bagan's defence into questioning. Two defenders left the solo player unmarked in the center of the box who kicked it into the net to make scores level.

In the next 5 minutes, Sayan made lethal runs down the left channel, where he was brought down in the box twice but the referee was not interested in both instances.

A couple of minutes later, Suhail pressed the keeper, leading to a pass interception from Bivan and he set up Kiyan to take the shot where the keeper was out of place. However, Suhail kept his eyes down on the ball, unaware of Kiyan's positioning and his movement was terrible. His final shot was weak and blocked easily by the defender as he failed to slot it into an empty net. A vital opportunity fumbled!

Tanmoy was impressive in the midfield, often transitioning as a Centre-Back during attacks with focus on distribution and chance creation. Post 60 minutes, he was found lagging in the midfield which often led others to dispossess him and launch counter attacks. A timely sub of Tongsin could have prevented this from happening.

Throughout the second half, the Young Colts kept increasing the intensity and substitutions brought in more attacking flair, but the scoreline was unaffected. The team lacked cohesion and coordination which often left players perplexed about the attacking strategy. LL KDSC made an excellent effort to hold down the fort. In attack, David tested Dippendu time and again but fell short to Bagan defender's stamina and pace. The keeper was even replaced to bolster the defence against impending attacks. Gogocha was subbed in to play on the right wing as Kiyan shifted to striker role. In the 83rd minute, Sayan lept in the air and went for a bicycle kick, but the acrobatic shot missed the target by whiskers.

Raj Basfore took many corners and was very much involved in the game, from defence to attack. Although his impact was average at best, he was given the Man of the Match award for his efforts.

LL KDSC played physically and got away with it. Mohun Bagan made their fair share of mistakes and plenty of attacks. At the end of the day, both teams gave the effort and shared the spoils.

Mohun Bagan dropped points in just the 2nd game of CFL. The players needs to find their rhythm and play in tune, in order to put in a concerted effort towards winning the matches. Football is a team game and the players should perform according to the weight of the legacy of the jersey that they are wearing when they are on and off the field. The Mariners will face Kalighat MS next, on 19th July.
