MBFT can exclusively confirm that the Mariners are currently in advanced talks with Mumbai City FC over a potential transfer of the Indian international.
This is not a sudden move. Mohun Bagan's interest in Chhangte dates back to 2024, and the club has continued to monitor his situation closely. On 28th January 2026, MBFT had exclusively reported that if Chhangte became available in the summer transfer window, he would be Mohun Bagan's priority target. Since then, the club have quietly prepared for this opportunity.
MBFT understands that Chhangte has just one year remaining on his current contract with Mumbai City FC, making this a crucial transfer window for all parties. During negotiations, Mohun Bagan have made it clear that while they are keen to sign the Mizo winger, they will not be held to ransom over the transfer fee. The club remain hopeful of reaching a fair agreement, but discussions between the two clubs are still ongoing.
Chhangte's numbers over the last few ISL seasons explain why Mohun Bagan have pursued him for so long. He enjoyed back-to-back outstanding campaigns in 2022-23 and 2023-24, registering 10 goals and 6 assists in each season.
