BFC holds off magnificent Mohun Bagan in a Tense, Goaless Draw at Sree Kanteerava.
In a fully-sold out stadium, BFC hosted Mohun Bagan in Bengaluru with the aim of salvaging points against the defending champions. Following their defeat in ISL Cup Final, they were motivated to fight till their last breath to hold off Bagan. Although Bagan was more dominating and created more chances, they fell behind due to poor finishing and wasted opportunities. Mohun Bagan's defense was truly tested in this match and they persevered to secure a clean sheet in their first away match of ISL 2025/26.-:Gameplay Discussion and Analysis :-
Mehtab was seeing practicing in the sidelines in the practice sessions which meant he wasn't fully fit to start the match. As expected, Tom Aldred made a start for the first time this season alongside Alberto Rodriguez. Captain Bose and Tekcham started on the left and right full back role respectively. Midfield duo Thapa and Apuia was a constant. Up front, with 2 remaining foreign slots, Jamie Maclaren started as the striker with Dimitrios Petratos in support behind him as CAM. On the wings, Liston started in the left wing and Manvir on the right. This formation reminds us of classic Molina and similar gamestyle was followed by Lobera in this match. As BFC flooded the midfield with players and held a compact structure there, Mohun Bagan wasn't able to play too many quick transitional passes. Instead, long balls switching and down-the-wing runs were more in motion. A couple of midfield chances were created but Liston, who often found himself in CAM position, couldn't make better use of it. There was a lack of penetration and flexible running into the box, as Apuia and Thapa stayed behind with Alberto and Tom to defend, leaving Dimi to fend for himself in the midfield with full backs on either flanks. As for the wingers, they increased numbers in the box in the quest to find the goal from the crosses being taken.
Alberto was phenomenal to say the least. Despite BFC ramping up pressure on the right wing with Braian and Ryan, Alberto didn't shy away from the duels and interceptions. He delivered perfect long ball switches to the right wing where Tekcham, Dimi and Manvir stood to receive it. He came oh-too-close twice in front of the opponent's goal, and missed an open chance to find the net from Dimi's freekick and a corner. Tom did well on the right center back too, keeping the aerial balls away from danger and clearing the ball when Ashique put in crosses into the box. Both Center-Backs were involved in ball distribution through long ball delivery and down-the-wing progression being facilitated. The center-backs playing as playmakers is another example of similarity to Jose Molina's style of play that we witnessed in this match.
Jamie Maclaren was surrounded by Chinglesana Singh and Rahul Bheke for the entirety of the match. He did well to make some runs towards the wing and pull the defenders out but the lack of players making the run inside at that exact moment made the difference! He gave a wonderful pass to Dimi to set him up for goal but Dimi missed his 1-on-1 opportunity and shot it wide. An unexpected miss that, as Sergio Lobera said in the post-match conference,"It felt like we lost 2 points." The coach was visibly agitated in the first half as he shouted instructions to his team from the sidelines. Despite that, he had his trust on the Starting XI to break through as he desperately made substitutions at late 88'.

-:Players That Stood Out:-
Alberto Rodriguez: He made 5 defensive contributions, winning 2/2 aerial duels and 2/3 ground duels. As the playmaker, he delivered 78 passes with top-notch 94% accuracy! He sent 8 long balls in the whole game and took 3 shots, out of which 2 were on target. From defense to offense, his performance was visible all over the pitch.Anirudh Thapa: He was present as a pseudo-defender for Bagan. He blocked 2 open shots inside the box from Sunil Chhetri. In the midfield, he played 45 passes with 85% accuracy. Though he wasn't as involved in the attack as in previous games, he ensured a clean sheet and 1 point in Bagan's name.
Chinglesana Singh: After ISL Final upset, he took his job seriously. He made a goal-line save to deny Maclaren adding another to his tally. He was physically dominant throughout the whole match, not allowing Mariners to get the upper hand as he kept the ball cleared away from his box.
Other notable players include Dimi Petratos who created 5 big chances and played 6 key passes in the game. Subhasish Bose shined too, playing 43 passes with 91% accuracy and taking 2 shots attempts.
