The Indian Football League season is about to kick off on 14th February, and defending champions Mohun Bagan will host Kerala Blasters in the opening fixture of this season's ISL.
Mohun Bagan have two of India's finest wingers in Liston Colaco and Manvir Singh, but they aren't getting any younger. Mohun Bagan have already released Ashique Kuruniyan, but didn't replace him in the summer transfer window.
Coach Sergio Lobera had a meeting with the board of directors and the CEO, and they have decided that the club will make at least one Indian Attacker (Winger) signing a priority in the summer.
The club have already prepared a short list of 5 names with multiple youngsters in the club's radar.
Mumbai City FC's captain, Lallianzuala Chhangte, is widely regarded as the best right winger in the country, and he has a contract valid until 2027. Still, Bagan would be ready in the summer window if Mumbai decides to sell. MBFT Understands, Mohun Bagan are interested in the Indian National Team star for the last 2 seasons, and if he is available, Mohun Bagan will make him the primary target. Some sources suggested, a move in January 2026 is feasible too, but due to league's uncertainty, Bagan have made the decision to wait till the summer.
MBFT Can exclusively confirm, FC Goa's Brison Fernandes has caught the eye of the decision-makers at Bagan in the last 18 months as the FC Goa academy boy has risen through the ranks of the Gaurs and become a key player under Spanish tactician Manolo Marquez Roca. The Goanese playmaker can play in the wings and operate in the midfield too.
Brison's current deal expires in May 2026, and FC Goa are interested in a renewal. Last we heard, Goa and Brison are in talks for a 3-year extension.
Mohun Bagan have asked the players' representatives to keep Bagan informed about any kind of developments regarding the player. If the renewal is not done, Bagan will be ready to swoop in.
Bagan have a 5 Man shortlist for that winger role, and the backup option to Brison is Odisha FC's Isak Vanlalruatfela, who is very appreciated at Bagan, and coach Sergio Lobera is a big fan too. Odisha FC so far have failed to renew the contract with the 24-year-old. Emami East Bengal are interested in a winter deal for a cut-price, but Odisha is demanding a huge fee, which is a stumbling block. Mohun Bagan so far have decided against making a move this January, but if the player is still available in the summer, The mariners' will be making their move.
Mohun Bagan have Parthiv Gogoi in the list too, but the player has a contract valid till 2027. Jamshedpur FC's Md Sanan is one more name to be kept an eye on, but the winger has a contract valid till 2028.
Mohun Bagan are prepared to release at least two foreigners from the current roster, with Coach Lobera eyeing a midfield overhaul. One obvious club target is Hugo Boumous, who is on loan to Malaysian side Selangor FC. The Moroccan midfielder is expected to return to Indian Football next season, and Coach Sergio Lobera already sees him as a potential option.
Mohun Bagan are also monitoring the contract situation of a Latin American midfielder playing in the subcontinent, whose current deal is set to expire in May 2026. Mohun Bagan will be interested in a deal if the player becomes a free agent. Mohun Bagan will make a decision between the two once the season is over.
