“Take my word on behalf of the team…we will take this revenge on the field. Next match we will show what we can do for the fans (…)”

Those were the words spoken by Dimitri Petratos, who gave his word to win the upcoming match and take revenge for the Mariner away fans who went to support the team in Jamshedpur who instead of being welcomed, were beaten up by the police and security personnel, including one individual getting hit on the back of the head which landed him in the hospital.

In spite of being the underdogs, Jamshedpur FC pulled off a miracle on Thursday with the support of the home supporters to defeat Mohun Bagan and end their 12-match unbeaten streak in the first leg semifinal of ISL Playoffs. Mohun Bagan will look to turn the tide in their favour and win the 2nd leg of ISL Playoff Semifinal by a margin at VYBK in front of thousands of home fans and secure a win in honour of the 12th Man on Monday.

5 Key Things to Look Out for on Monday’s Clash:-

  1. Big Match, Big Man-Jamie Maclaren :

The All-time A-league high scorer is an experienced striker who turns up in the important matches to put the team ahead when it’s most needed. Being the highest scorer for the Mariners with 11 goals and 2 assists in 23 appearances, he will the man in the box that shakes the defence. With Stephen Eze missing out on the upcoming match, he will be unstoppable. He will be the deciding factor that secures a win for Mohun Bagan.

  1.  Sideline Dominators-Asish Rai and Subhasish Bose :

The Captain and Asish Rai has been solid side-backs this entire ISL season. They will need to step up to increase pressure in the attacking half and also make sure the opponent wingers cannot get past them. From maintaining possession to providing assists and scoring goals, this duo is capable of making the opponent crumble under pressure.

  1. Midfield in-Sync Sahal Abdul Samad and Anirudh Thapa :

The Indian brothers in midfield played well in the previous match but failed to score a goal. With a change in strategy and more aggression, Sahal can be a menace to defend against. Thapa, on the other hand, has quite the expertise to deliver key passes in the attacking third. With an ability to thump the ball from the edge of the penalty box, both the midfields have to bring their best performance to score goals and secure this must-win match.

  1. The Joker- Jason Cummings :

Being the trump card, this Aussie he will be in control of the midfield and be the playmaker for the team. As he prefers to play as False 9, he will complement Jamie in the attacks while maintaining possession in the attacking half with the help of the wingers. He will turn up to show how a match is won with aaram-se attitude.

  1. Jamshedpur FC’s Captain-Javi Hernandez :

He played an important role in the previous match by scoring a goal and getting the lead in final minutes of the game. With experienced strikers, Siverio and Jordan, he will try to score and increase the lead, while guiding the team as captain while defending against Mohun Bagan.

-: Tactical Analysis :-

Mohun Bagan will field a 4-2-3-1 lineup with Subhasish Bose as Captain. Molina will field an aggressive strategy on Monday with Jamie Maclaren in the starting lineup and Jason Cummings as CAM. With Stephen Eze and Ashutosh Mehta missing from the lineup, Maclaren can exert a lot of pressure in the box and earn goals for the team.

With attempts to break the offside trap and force the defense line behind, Sahal and Cummings will have space to develop the attacks and attempt shots at goal on their own. Manvir and Apuia is back in training, but unlikely to start in the upcoming match. Hence, Thapa will be in control of the central midfield with the responsibility of keeping possession and stopping Javi from trying his tricks.

Deepak Tangri will work alongside him as blockers when defending, quadrupling up with centre-backs to stop through passes being played which open up the face of the goal. The centre-backs, Alberto and Tom will help with developing attacks and keeping their own penalty box safe from Jordan Murray and Siverio’s attempts.

Mohun Bagan loves to score from set pieces, as we witnessed a sensational freekick goal from Cummings in the previous match. With thousands of home fans backing them up, they will go full-throttle in this upcoming must-win match.

Jamshedpur FC has managed to get a goal lead in the first leg of ISL Playoffs Semifinal. They love to score from set pieces, especially from corners and long throws with tall players in the opponent penalty box.

From open play, they prefer playing horizontal passing through the midfield as the far end wingers rush into the penalty box. Khalid Jamil deploys a typical 4-4-2 lineup with Javi as Captain, who has scored a goal in the previous leg. In defense, Albino Gomes has been solid at goal this season. With Stephen Eze and Ashutosh Mehta getting yellow cards in the first leg, they will miss out and be replaced by Cirkovic and Subham in defense, a big disadvantage for the Red Miners.

They will, however, do their best to lead the defense as a unit and stop impending attacks. Using their fast paced wingers in the likes of Sanan, Nikhil and Ritwik, they will try to deliver accurate balls into the penalty box.

While Tom and Alberto will defend against the dual strikers, Siverio and Jordan, CDM Deepak Tangri has to man-mark Javi to stop attacks from being developed in the attacking third. With one goal lead, their main gameplan will be to defend with 5 players and man-mark Cummings and Maclaren and try to score from set pieces as well as counter the effect of less possession with aggressive counter attacks.
