The Black Panthers, despite all the turmoil they have faced in recent times, take on a steady yet dominating Mohun Bagan side that is not ready to give up its league title hopes.

Molina's boys sit on a healthy but cautious 7-point lead at the end of the 18th ISL match. Bagan still needs to point out silly and the lack of concentration at times even though they have a solid lead in the points table. So as always, humility and concentration should be the key for the Green and Maroon brigade to seal their title hopes as we are at the business end of this Marathon league.

Now, turning things to Mohammedan SC, ignoring all the surprises they created in the past, they have been very underwhelming despite boosting their squad with decent ISL-quality players since their promotion to the first tier of Indian Football.

The rise of Mohammedan and their long-standing Russian manager Andrey Chernyshov has been well documented in the Bengali sports media and we all are aware of it. Chernyshov and MDSC's relationship is like your average toxic relationship nowadays. They will stick to each other even though it is harming each other in many ways. But the concerning part is Andrey and his boys are still sticking with the club even though the club is 3 months behind their paychecks.

Enough of discussing administrative mismanagement, MDSC has been terrible and sitting in the dead last position and a negative 19 goal difference (2nd worst) and no home victory is the perfect representation of this run. Now at the counter, they stunned Chennaiyin, BFC in their backyard with composure, which is a sign that this team is lethal when given the chance to exploit, which I will discuss later in this article.

-: MDSC Key players to watch out for :-

Alexis Gomez: Possibly can see him in the colors of a Seaside club in the next season if things go well. Gomez is one of the rare players in this foreign contingent who came here to India at a very young age and has been playing well and going up to the ranks since his I-League days at Sudeva.

Apart from Luka Majcen of Punjab and Mirajlol Kasimov (whom I will talk about later in this article) has been a rare sight that an I-League star performer has been playing decent in the ISL. Gomez has been creating healthy chances even without the quality forward which MDSC lacks he has been seen as lethal at times and can do damage to the best of this league in his day.

Mirjalol Kasimov: Kasimov is the last hope the black Panthers hold in terms of some excellence. Kasimov is one of my favourite underdog players who can change everything if given the chance. He is lethal in dead ball situations in front of the box and can create goals.

Makan Chothe: Promising talent but needs to find a better place to show his exploits better. Chothe has been good and also bagged an assist in the meantime, but the good thing is Andre has been giving him healthy game time to show his talent.

-: Mohammedan Analysis:-

To be very honest the season was way over for them, many mismanagements inexperience, and turmoils only made it worse. Investments were made in this team but the priorities were not set at all which resulted in an imbalance in the team. The only thing holding this team together is manager Andrey and his spirit.

Their last outing against Mumbai City was just another defeat for them in which they were outplayed in every part of the game. The quality has not been supporting them the whole season and making them struggle every match day.

I would still try to point out some good things about this team though, they are very serious in terms of set pieces and dead ball situations. Nothing can be said in terms of open play but given the likes of Kasimov and Alexis Gomez. Things are not all sunny with the forward line of Carlos Franca, he has been absolutely terrible in terms of finishing and playing in the final third.

In the defense business, they go with a 4-back system with Florent as one of the Centre backs who has been seen as rock solid but at times he and his defence counterparts have been seen making mistakes and conceding.

There is not much tactically that can be said frankly with this team other than the jam-packed 4-3-3 formation and set pieces. With that said, this team has got nothing to lose but to gain some reputation as a Kolkata side if they upset the table toppers in any way possible.

-: The Mohun Bagan situation :-

Every match is a knockout match for Jose Molina's boys, every movement, every pass, every touch, every miss and every goal will decide our faith for the upcoming title. Humility and concentration should be the priority of the coach, the team depth has to be used right now in the business end of the league.

There will be no key absentee other than Anirudh Thapa, so far but recent news is surfacing that Alberto Rodriguez is recovering from a minor injury he picked up against BFC. But all things considered, the coach should give the players some necessary breaks for this match and give the bench a chance to shine.

-: Probable Lineups :-

Mohun Bagan: Kaith; Rai-Aldred-Dippendu-Subhasish; Apuia-Sahal; Sahal-Cummings-Liston; Jamie Maclaren.

Mohammedan SC : Padam, Bora-Zoherliana-Jasim-Chaak, Kasimov-Gomez-Irshad, Franca-Chothe-Fanai.
