The Green and Maroon Brigade had a disappointing outing today at Kalyani Stadium as they suffered a 2-1 defeat in their 8th CFL match against George Telegraph.

Mohun Bagan had a similar lineup to their 5-0 win over Eastern Railways in their previous match, making just one change with captain Sumit Rathi returning and Leewan being pushed to the bench.

Mohun Bagan started the match strongly with a flurry of attacks orchestrated mostly by Salahudheen from the left flank. Serto opened the scoring for the Mariners from the spot at 30 minutes, courtesy of a Jewel Ahmed handball.

Both teams had good chances in the remaining part of the first half but failed to convert any of them. However, in the second half, the Mariners totally seemed out of touch. Amit Ekka equalized for George in the 53rd minute from a defensive error by Sumit.

Within three minutes, Mariners goalkeeper Raja Barman and defender Raj Basfore made horrendous mistakes which led to another goal for George by Ekka. With this defeat, Mohun Bagan move to 7th place in their group with 12 points in 8 matches.

Overall, it was a very disappointing performance with clear loopholes in both finishing and defense. Coach Deggie has a lot of areas in this team to reform. Bagan face Calcutta Customs on August 14.
