Defenders became Saviors as Mariners overcame a tough Hyderabad side away from home !!

Mohun Bagan handed Hyderabad FC their fifth defeat of the season as two late goals from defenders Brendan Hamill and Ashish Rai ensured all three points for the mariners as they win 5 out of 5 on the prowl in Indian Super League (ISL).

Juan Ferrando and his men who just faced a humiliating defeat in the hands of Odisha FC at home and were bowed of the continental competitions for this time round, came into this match with high aspirations but low on confidence . Hyderabad FC who were on a 7 match winless run came into this match with little expectations but high hopes . Mariner's 4 out of 4 wins in the league couldn't provide them the much needed confidence .

There goes a saying “Mohun Bagan takes the field to fight and win” and that body language and intent was seen from all the players to ensure 5 out of 5 wins in the league . Juan named his starting 11 as Youngster Kiyan was handed his first start of the league alongside Jason cummings upfront as Juan kept his tried and tested 3-5-2 formation. Anirudh Thapa also returned to the 11 as glan martins returns to the bench while Dimi Petratos and Manvir Singh were out for the contest.


 

Hyderabad Coach Thangboi Singto and assistant coach Conor Nestor named an all Indian defense of Nikhil Poojary, Chinglensana Singh , Nim Dorjee , Mark Zothanpuia , with 3 pivots above them in the form of Sahil Tavora, Joao Victor and Petteri Pennanen with Joe Knowles leading the line . They started the match on a high note by going on toe to toe with the mariners who boast the the attacking line-up of the league. 1st half ended as both teams took a total of 16 shots with lions share of them taken by the mariners while Hyderabad has no shots on target compared to mariner's 2. Hector Yuste and Mohammed Yasir ended the first half with cautions to their name. Hyderabad also made higher number of passes than the mariners.


 

2nd half began with a crack as both teams wanted to capitalize early , but those early exchanges went in vain as both teams find each other`s defense a hard nut to be cracked . But slowly Juan made those tactical changes that made the match move with more speed as Armando Sadiku comes in for Jason Cummings. Jason who was totally marked out of the match by Joao Victor and Nim Dorjee comes out with a totally bad day at office . Hyderabad had already started on strengthening the defense and hitting the mariners on the counter attack by then . To increase the intensity , Juan played the ace card as he substitutes in Suhail Ahmad Bhatt in place of Kiyan Nassiri . Suhail's quick feet and speed helped create more chances for the mariners as the attacking midfielder duo of Sahal and Boumous were simply not enough. Brendan Hamill who has been brilliant throughout the match decided to take matter in his own hands as he rolls forward the ball and playing a swift 1-2 pass with Sahal before smashing the ball in the far corner of the net. Bagan leads 1-0.


 

Mariners then slowed down the pace of the match , but launching attacks from time to time . Suhail then received a pass on the left flank which he rolled into the path of onrushing Subhasish Bose who centered the ball into the box for Sadiku but Gurmeet's interception made it fall into the box for Boumous, whose shot was deflected and fell into the path of the Ashish Rai who smashed it home for his first league goal of his career. Bagan leads 2-0 . 


 

Match set, clean sheet achieved, 3 points in the bag and 5 out of 5 on the prowl. With this win Mohun Bagan went to 3rd place in the league table with 15 points from 5 matches with a goal difference of plus 8. Mariners will return home on 6th of December to host Odisha FC.

Vishal Kaith :- 7/10

Was in good form today , committed less errors and distributed the ball well and also kept a clean sheet.


Hector Yuste :- 7/10

Maintained a sturdy defensive line and kept a good check on Hyderabad attackers, but still missed some crucial headers and clearances, which need to be rectified.


Brendan Hamill :- 9/10

Broke the deadlock today with a fine run from the back, totally shut  down Hyderabad's left wing . Probably had the best match in a Mariner`s shirt.


Subhashish Bose :- 7/10

Was on point from defensive point of view , also made offensive contributions through his flank.


Anirudh Thapa – 7/10

Controlled the midfield well after returning from an injury . Made good progressive passes . Was substituted for Hnamte in the later stages of the game.


Liston Colaco – 8/10

The old Liston is back , his touches , his dribbles are all on point , also maintained his defensive duties. All attacks from left sides was initiated through him.


Ashish Rai – 8/10

Was a bit shaky in first half but came back brilliantly on the right flank, kept a check on Hyderabad attackers & capped of the night with a brilliant goal.


Hugo Boumous :- 7/10

was not so super effective but tried his level best to create chances.


Sahal Abdul Samad :- 8/10

Maintained his superb run of form in the league , also got the assist for Hamill's opener.


Jason Cummings – 5/10

Was absolutely invisible today, no touches, no runs in the channels , and to cap off the bad day was subbed off early in the second half. 


Kiyan Nassiri :- 6/10

Done pretty well in his first start of the season , came down to create chances by link up play.


SUBSTITUTES :-


Suhail Ahmad Bhat :- 6/10

Was very energetic in his short cameo , introduced in too much pace for the opponents.


Armando Sadiku :- 5/10

Tried hard to get into spaces , would have done better if got better supplies.


Lalrinliana Hnamte :- N/A

Was good in his short cameo.
