The Australian wall of Mohun Bagan - Brendan Hamill . Hamill was signed in 2022 keeping AFC Cup Inter zonal semi final in mind . He made his debut for Bagan in the Durand cup in an
Unfortunate loss against Rajasthan United . Poor form and results continued for him as well as the team till the 2nd game of Hero ISL , as the team bow out of the Durand as well as the AFC Cup and witnessing a 1-2 loss against chennaiyin , This is when Hamill decided to take matter in his own hands , and brought the much needed robustness to the defense line of the team at the away match in kochi , where despite conceding an early goal , the team conceding only one goal after that , His rich vein of form continued as Mohun Bagan kept 4 clean sheets in the next 7 matches . Until Kerala blasters match back on 18th February 2023 in kolkata , where he got his 7 th yellow of the ISL campaign he was an irreplaceable cog of the defense line led by captain Pritam kotal and on the flanks by Ashis Rai and Subhashis Bose. With Hamill in the starting 11 , Bagan kept 8 of the total 12 clean sheets kept in the ISL campaign. Though he has return to his country due to his family problems after previous mentioned kbfc match and by that time his place in the starting 11 was Already occupied by Slavko Damjanovic who was in rich vein of form. Though he returned for the final match of the 22-23 season in ISL , he couldn't do much due to injury . But when in starting 11 , he really showed his class as a defender , Which earned him a place In the team for the 2023-24 season.
HOW JUAN FERRANDO IS GOING TO USE HIM IN THIS SEASON:-
The best defenders of the ISL have an aura about them they get the league going from the get go , Hamill lies just in that elite class of defenders along with some other best
Defenders of the league. Having won the AFC Champions League with Western Sydney Wanderers back in 2014 , he was an experienced defender to boot for. Juan Ferrando likes all of his players to be confident and clean on the ball , a quality which Brendan Hamill possesses. He is an elite defender who has excellent ball playing skills as well as experience of leading a team to glory , these were the qualities management looked for keeping a long term vision in mind . With AFC implementing 6 (5+1) foreigner rule with one Asian player
On the pitch, he is expected to be the AFC quota player for the team . This year with him the only recognised Centre Back in the team , he is expected to do more in the team's Build up play an also maintaining the robustness in the back line. With Pritam kotal rumoured to leave this summer , this may be a high time , his Leadership skills might be called into Action as one of the captains of the team . Overall , he amassed a total of 1648 minutes over 20 matches in the Hero ISL with averaging 40 passes per game and also contributing.
Defensively by 83 clearances and 26 interceptions , these numbers are only believed to get better this year with him as the only foreign Centre Back this year.
