Mohun Bagan's recently appointed assistant coach, Clifford Miranda, is officially announced as the U-23 National Team Head Coach for the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers, which are scheduled to be held between September 6 and 12 in Dalian Sports Centre Stadium, China.
As per reports of Ashish Negi (Khel Now), Clifford Miranda had many offers from various ISL clubs to be their assistant coach. Even Odisha FC wanted to keep him. He also had multiple offers from various I-League teams for the Head Coach role, which has not materialised. Then he decided to join Mohun Bagan.
Why did he join Mohun Bagan and the National team at the same time?
As per reports of Ashish Negi (Khel Now), the National team job is just for 3 months. But during his tenure at the National Team, every ISL team will secure their own assistant coach. So there will not be any vacant job available for him after the National Team duty. So he decided to accept Mohun Bagan's offer and will join them after the National Camp.
When will Miranda join Mohun Bagan?
Clifford Miranda will join the AFC U-23 Asian Cup preparatory camp on August 12th, and the competition will be held between September 6 and 12. So we can say that he will not be available before September 12th.
Effect on Mohun Bagan?
Until September 12th, Mohun Bagan has Durand Cup and AFC Cup Qualifiers to play. In these competitions, as an assistant coach, Bastab Roy would have to step up. Currently he is the coach of Mohun Bagan SG Reserves. He is doing pretty well in the CFL (4 Win 1 Draw in 5 CFL Games). So he has all the capabilities to be the assistant coach of Mohun Bagan.
Mohun Bagan has so many major competitions ahead. We just hope they do well this season. With so many Superstar signings, this season's expectations are very much high. We hope that with the addition of Clifford Miranda, they can match their expectations.
