Mohun Bagan dominate Sreenidi Deccan FC by 6 goals | IFA Shield Match Review

Masterclass from Lalianzuala Chhangte steals the show!


Mohun Bagan faced Sreenidi Deccan for the opening match of IFA Shield, 2026 to start off their title defence after lifting the trophy last year by defeating arch rivals, EBFC, in the finals.

90 MINUTES BREAKDOWN

Coach Panos changed the formation to 3 at the back and 2 CDM's. Chhangte started on the LW and Liston on the RW. Miguel was CM (No. 8) and Drazic played ahead in the CAM (No.10) role. Captain Bose was the Left CB and Alberto was the CB. Rahul Bheke was the Right CB.

The first goal came in the 8th minute from Maclaren's intensive pressing, which forced a defensive pass and Drazic rushed to intercept it. He gave a dummy to throw off Pritam and pass it along to Abhishek. He finished it into the bottom left corner.

In the 15th minute, Chhangte sent in a perfect cross to Miguel, who just arrived in the box. Maclaren kept two defenders engaged, but the Brazilian's strike was off-target. Two minutes later, Miguel passed to Maclaren, who took a weak shot at goal.

In the 23rd and 25th minute, Bagan's defence had a momentary lapse in concentration and Deepak's mispassing almost led to a blunder.

In the 38th minute, Chhangte dribbled past two players and set up Miguel to score, but the Brazilian failed to react fast and the ball was cleared off his feet.

Chhangte scored his first goal from Miguel's pass who was pre-assisted by Liston on the left wing. Miguel cut the ball back for Chhangte, who slotted it into the net.


In the HT Break, CFL trophy was paraded on the ground. It was handed over to Mohun Bagan as they became CFL Champions 4 days ago after a 8-year drought.

In 52', Maclaren got a good pass on the left wing. He crossed it in for Chhangte. He managed to bring it down, and dribble past the diving keeper and calmly score into the net.

In 55', Mohun Bagan increased pressure in the box with quick passes. Miguel made a run down left wing again and crossed it in. It took a deflection of Pritam and went straight to Chhangte, who wasted no moment to score a hattrick.

Bagan got two more close chances to score from Liston's crosses. The players kept changing their positions to bring variety into the game.

In the 80', Chhangte passed the ball to Kiyan. He crossed the ball in with power. It was blocked and deflected to the path of Sandeep, who took a shot at goal. It got deflected again but still ended up into the back of the net. What an IFA Shield debut for the youngster who scored as a golden sub for Mohun Bagan!

Two minutes later, Chhangte delivered an inch-perfect cross to Bagan's new Scottish striker, Lee Erwin. His towering header had no match and he made the scoreline 6-0 in favour of the Mariners. His debut goal was celebrated well in the stands!


Man of the Match award was given to Lalianzuala Chhangte for scoring a hattrick and providing an assist! His performance stole the show!
