Despite Massive First Half Dominance, clumsy Second Half makes the final scoreline fall short of expectations.

Mohun Bagan faced Coal India SPA at Mohun Bagan AC Ground in their first Super Six Round Match of CFL 2026.

~: How the Match Unfolded :~

In the First Half, Mohun Bagan had their sights set to dominate the match. Liston missed two chances in the first quarter, once when he arrived late to the cross from right wing and another, where his shot from inside the box flew into the clouds.

In the 21st minute, Manvir scored the first goal from Sahal's penetrating through assist after dribbling the ball past the keeper.

Later on, Manvir missed an open net tap-in opportunity from Kiyan's perfect cross from right wing. In 35', Sahal doubled the lead with a grounded placement towards the right post from the edge of the box.

2 minutes later, Sandeep scored the 3rd goal for the Mariners with an exquisite volley finish from inside the box. Acrobatic and fascinating!

Bagan was far from done! 2 minutes later in 39th minute, Tekcham broke through the midfield and found Kiyan on the right wing with an accurate pass, who calmly sent the ball to the back of the net.

Right before Half Time, Manvir was brought down in the box. He took the penalty himself and made it 5 with a bottom right corner finish.



In the Second Half, the dominance suddenly vanished due to questionable substitutions. Apart from keeping possession, the fresh legs barely made any difference and the attacks became less threatening. The rest of Starting XI seemed quite tired, owning to lack of fitness, and performed below par.

In 75th minute, Raj slided to clear the ball in the box and the cross from the left winger made contact with his out-stretched hand. Irfan converted the penalty for Coal India SPA by smashing it into the net.

Final Scoreline read 5-1. A sizeable goal lead but a tremendous contrast is evident between Mohun Bagan's first and second half. A GD of +4 in the first match might just not be enough for the chase to lift the trophy!
