The Blue Tigers will face three nations that featured at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Panama will come first in Bengaluru, followed by Brazil and Uruguay in Kolkata.
Bengaluru last hosted the Indian senior men's team in 2023 SAFF Championship when India lifted the trophy at Kanteerava after defeating Kuwait in the final. Three years later, the Blue Tigers return to the same stadium for an entirely different challenge, with a changed squad and a new coaching regime.The Central American side, Panama, the 44th ranked team, arrive after a 2026 World Cup campaign.
While the attention surrounding this international window will inevitably grow with Brazil and Uruguay still to come, Panama deserve to be viewed on their own terms. They are a disciplined and experienced side, and this opening fixture will test India against a world class opponent.
A NEW CHAPTER UNDER KHALID JAMIL

Panama have developed into a well-organised and experienced side under Thomas Christiansen. They qualified directly for the 2026 World Cup after finishing top of their final-round qualifying group, while seven members of their 2026 squad had also been part of their historic debut at the 2018 World Cup, including Luis Mejía, Amir Murillo, Éric Davis, Fidel Escobar, Aníbal Godoy, Yoel Bárcenas and Ismael Díaz.Panama's experience means India will need to be purposeful with possession, particularly against a side unlikely to be unsettled by periods of pressure. The midfield could therefore prove decisive. Lalengmawia Ralte can provide the energy to connect India's defensive and attacking phases, while Anirudh Thapa's ability tempo control could help the Blue Tigers remain composed under pressure. Manvir Singh's pace gives India an option to attack the space behind Panama's defensive line, while the opposite winger and advancing full-backs can help stretch the visitors and open passing lanes into the final third. However, that attacking ambition must be balanced with defensive discipline. Panama can be dangerous during counter attacks.

SAHAL ABDUL SAMAD - His ability to operate between the lines can give the Blue Tigers a creative route through the centre, while his close control and ability to turn and carry the ball could help India progress attacks especially with Ryan Williams leading the attack.MANVIR SINGH - Manvir offers India a direct attacking threat, with his pace particularly useful when Panama's defensive line pushes forward. His willingness to contribute defensively will also be important when possession changes hands.
TEKCHAM ABHISHEK SINGH - With his pace, stamina and flexibility, Tekcham offers raw quality on the pitch. Apart from defensive actions, he can operate as wing-back and add extensively to the attack.
ADALBERTO CARRASQUILLA - Recognised as the Concacaf Men's Player of the Year for 2023/24, his ability to progress possession and influence in transition make him a key figure in Panama's midfield, and India will need to limit his influence without disrupting their own shape.
ISMAEL DÍAZ - One of Panama's most dangerous attacking players with five goals and five assists in 15 Liga MX appearances during the 2025/26 season. His movement and clinical finishing makes him a constant threat around the penalty area.
AMIR MURILLO - Having played as Panama's right side in both 2018 and 2026 World Cups, he brings considerable international experience to the table. His crossing ability could create an interesting battle with India's left side, particularly deciding when to press forward and when to remain compact.
