EXCL: Mumbai City FC is progressing talks to Sign Robson Robinho

Mumbai City FC have jumped at the opportunity to sign Robson Robinho. The interest towards the Brazilian Left Winger is driven by their Newly-Appointed Coach, Manolo Marquez Roca and Director of Football at Mumbai City FC, Sujay Sharma. Both of them rates Robson Robinho highly. Before FC Goa signed Dejan Drazic in 2024, they had explored the deal of Robson Robinho but eventually backed off because he was too costly at that moment. Since then, Manolo Marquez Roca was drawn towards the player. As Mohun Bagan wants to offload Robson to sign a 6th foreigner for 2026-27 Season, Mumbai City FC wants to take advantage of the market opportunity.

Mumbai City FC has spoken with Mohun Bagan regarding the player and they have been given permission to speak with the camp of Robson Robinho. On broad and personal terms, the representatives of Robson Robinho have agreed with Mumbai City FC, but talks are ongoing on the compensation package of Mohun Bagan towards Robson Robinho. With one year left on his current contract, Mohun Bagan is more interested in mutual termination rather than a loan move, but the club wants to cover a portion of his salary for the upcoming season as compensation and expects Mumbai City FC to cover the rest or Robson to take a pay cut. This decision is ultimately the call of the player and Mumbai City FC.

At this moment, Robson's move to Mumbai City FC is a real possibility, but since the player signed a big sum contract at Mohun Bagan, finalizing talks and negotiations might be time-consuming. All camps are expecting a development within the next seven days.

Regarding Robson Robinho, multiple clubs were interested. Bhayangkara Presisi Lampung FC sent a loan proposal to Mohun Bagan, which fell through as Bagan pushed for a mutual termination. Robson also rejected the move to the Indonesian Super League from his end as he wants to continue to play in Indian Super League. Just like MCFC, another interested club from India was Chennaiyin FC who enquired about the player. Official negotiations haven't begun and the club is yet to send a formal proposal to Mohun Bagan. Apart from these two clubs, there is another Indian club that was interested to sign Robson, but they are currently skeptical about the future of ISL so official negotiations have not been pursued yet.

As of now, the most probable destination for Robson Robinho is Mumbai City FC. He was also offered contracts from several clubs in Bangladesh but the current scenario in the neighbouring country has made the camp of Robson Robinho hesitant to accept them.

In other news, Mohun Bagan's 6th foreigner signing is most likely to be a striker. As of now, no final decision regarding the 6th foreigner has been reached upon. Some new names have been introduced in Bagan's shortlist and Mohun Bagan will explore these options.
