Mohun Bagan Super Giant is set to face Inter Kashi in their upcoming fixture, a crucial match as the season approaches its thrilling climax. Despite the opponents sitting 10th on the table and currently without a head coach, Mariners' Head Coach Sergio Lobera explicitly warned against any complacency.
Addressing the media in the pre-match press conference alongside midfielder Abhishek Suryavanshi, Lobera made it clear that the sole objective is securing three points, refusing to look past the immediate challenge.
When asked if this match would be an opportunity to experiment with the squad, the tactician was unequivocal. "I feel we are going to play against a good opponent. We need to give our 100% because if we are thinking it will be easy, it will be a big mistake. I am sure if we are not giving our 100%, we cannot win the game," Lobera stated. "And it's not the moment to make experiments. It is the moment to win the games, to get the points we need to get our target. And this is my focus. With the league's new format making goal difference a potential tie-breaker for the top spot, the Coach acknowledged its importance but stressed that accumulating points remains the ultimate priority. He also addressed the team's struggles to convert from set-pieces, particularly corners, taking full responsibility while assuring fans that the coaching staff is actively working on solutions.
"For sure, set pieces are very important in football. And you can see in games, a small detail is possible to change everything. For sure we need to improve, we only need to see the numbers," he admitted. "David, the assistant coach, is working very hard on that. I am the responsible one as a coach about this, and we need to improve. Finally, these kinds of actions in football can change everything when the games are in equal situations."
The press conference also touched upon the fitness of key midfielder Apuia, who was restricted to just 45 minutes in the previous draw against FC Goa. Lobera emphasized the difficulty of balancing the midfield without him but praised the squad's overall depth. "He is a player who gives us balance. With or without the ball he is an amazing player" Lobera noted. "But there are no excuses because finally I have a very good squad... hopefully we can use Apuia, but if we are not using Apuia, we need to win games. We won games without Apuia too."
