Bengaluru FC vs Mohun Bagan | GW5 ISL 2025/26 Match Preview

It’s Super Saturday in the ISL as table-toppers Mohun Bagan travel to the Sree Kanteerava Stadium for their first away match of the season on 14th March, '26 against Bengaluru FC.

The match will be a special occasion as it marks the 100th appearance of the talismanic Aussie attacker Dimitri Petratos for the Mariners. Fondly known as “Dimi-God” by the Mohun Bagan devotees, Petratos has already registered over 50 goal contributions in 99 games for the club. He has been the definition of clutch for Bagan, famously scoring the winning goal in the 2023 Durand Cup Final against East Bengal FC, when Mohun Bagan were down to 10-men. He also played a decisive role in helping the Mariners secure their second consecutive League Shield last season scoring the goal at 92:49 against Odisha FC.

The Double Defending Champions have been on fire this season, winning all four of their matches, and scoring 14 goals while conceding just two! The tactics have been spot-on, with near-perfect execution on the pitch. Several players have hit top form, with Jamie Maclaren leading the charge. The Mariners will be eager to continue their dominance and make it five wins out of five.

Bengaluru FC, on the other hand, have had a bit of a dicey start to the season, recording two wins, one draw, and one loss in their four matches. Expectations were high before the season began, especially after the naturalization of Ryan Williams and the signing of Ashique Kuruniyan. However, Renedy Singh’s men have yet to deliver. They narrowly edged past a struggling all-Indian Mohammedan SC squad in their last game. The West Block Blues will certainly be eager to rediscover their form and avenge last year’s cup final defeat against the Mariners. This is clash between redemption and dominance.

-:Probable Lineups:-

Mohun Bagan (4-2-3-1): Vishal Kaith (GK), Tekcham Abhishek Singh-Alberto Rodríguez-Deepak Tangri-Subhasish Bose(C), Apuia-Anirudh Thapa, Liston Colaco- Jason Cummings- Dimitrios Petratos, Jamie Maclaren.

Coach: Sergio Lobera

Bengaluru FC (4-4-2): Gurpreet Singh Sandhu (GK), Rahul Bheke-Chinglesana-Nikhil Poojari-Roshan Singh Naorem, Ashique Kuruniyan- Fanai- Braian Sanchez-Sirojiddin Kuziev, Ryan Williams, Sunil Chhetri(C).

Coach: Renedy Singh

-:Tactical Analysis:-

The Mariners, high on confidence, will look to continue their all-out attacking approach and try to kill the game early. Apuia and Thapa have been outstanding in the midfield and remain the soul of this side. Their performance will be crucial in controlling the tempo of the match.

However, Bagan’s biggest trump card will undoubtedly be Jamie Maclaren. With seven goals in four matches, the Aussie striker has been unstoppable. Give him the ball in the right area and he is dangerous enough to find the back of the net.

At the same time, Sergio Lobera will be wary of the attacking threat posed by Bengaluru FC, especially through the likes of Sunil Chhetri, Ryan Williams and Braian Sanchez. The Bagan defense will have to stay on their toes throughout the match.

For Bengaluru, attacking will be the only real option as they have no other choice but to win. They possess similar full backs in likes of Nikhil Poojary and Roshan Singh Naorem. Coupled with players like Ryan Williams, Fanai, and Sirojiddin Kuziev, they are more than capable of making similar runs like Isak and Rahim Ali did in the previous game.

Their defenders also include including Chingelsana and Rahul Bheke, who are quality Indian defenders, and such big players often rise to the occasion in high-pressure matches. This is the perfect match for them to show their mettle.

-:Players to Watch Out For:-

Dimitri Petratos: The man of big moments, would definitely be the centre of attention. The versatile attacker with a thunderous right foot has already scored 2 goals and provided an assist this season. He would surely like to increase his tally and make his 100th game special.

Liston Colaco: He has shown what he is capable of in the previous game. Clinical passes, dribbling past defenders and making the required runs is expected. If he finds his accuracy with a patient approach, he can definitely score goals in the upcoming match.

Jamie Maclaren: He scored in every single match in ISL 2025/26. Sergio Lobera has enabled him and we can see how. He is the main man that Bagan can rely on to make the main difference.

Ryan Williams: He has troubled Mohun Bagan time and again in previous encounters. With his skills on the wing, pace in the attacking half and ability to put in good crosses in the box, he can charge BFC in the right direction and enable their counter attacks against Bagan.

Sunil Chhetri: Captain, leader, legend and one of Bagan's own. The legend and India's greatest ever is a nightmare even at this age. As ISL's highest scorer with 76 goals, he would definitely not shy away from scoring one against his boyhood club.
