The Green and Maroon brigade garnered a scintillating 2-0 victory yesterday against Hyderabad at their home in the Gachibowli. Both teams were brimming with confidence as both were coming to this match from huge wins against East Bengal and Mohammedan respectively.

Jose Molina's team lined up in a 4-4-1-1 formation with Vishal in goal, Alberto, Aldred, Rai and captain Subhasish in defence, Sahal, Tangri, Thapa, Manvir in midfield and Greg acting as the playmaker with Maclaren leading the attack.

The Nizams began the match on a great note with Rabeeh, Goddard and Ramlunchhunga engaging in blistering attacks. The Mariners were initially not comfortable dealing with the attacks with Alberto and Subhasish conceding cheap yellow cards in dangerous positions.

Mohun Bagan got their first great opportunity in the 19th minute with Stewart hitting the side netting. The Mariners got hold of the game from that point onwards but the host's backline stayed strong. Maclaren got a golden opportunity in the 30th minute from a great pass from Manvir but this attempt was thwarted by Alex Saji's brilliant intervention.

But this defiance did not last much as Manvir scored a brilliant goal from a defence splitting pass by Thapa in the 37th minute giving the visitors a crucial lead. The Mariners nearly scored their second in the 43rd minute with Sahal trying his luck on goal.

The 2nd half began on a much positive note for Bagan as the players were playing in a much more synchronised fashion. Sahal got a golden opportunity in the 50th minute courtesy a sloppy backpass from HFC defence but his shot went wide. But these attacks were eventually proven to be fruitful when Subhasish got to the end of a perfect Greg Stewart freekick, extending the lead to 2 goals.

The Nizams tried their luck a few times with Allan coming close in the 57th minute. The game was pretty normal with both teams going back and forth at each other. Our Ex-Mariner Lenny came very close at the very end in the 90+6th minute but he hit the crossbar.

Mohun Bagan are currently 2nd in the table with 13 points in 6 matches. It seems that Molina ball has finally began to settle in. Big wins against Mohammedan S.C. and Emami East Bengal have bolstered this claim.

The Green and Maroon brigade will face a tough opponent in Odisha on 10th of November after the Diwali break and as the battle for the league shield intensifies and every match seems like a knockout.
