Strikes from 2 son of soil, Subhasish Bose and Dippendu Biswas and the Australian World-cupper Jason cummings were enough to seal three points against Juan Pedro Benali side on a rainy Kolkata evening. The match also witnessed the long awaited debut of the marquee signing, Jamie Maclaren.

Jose Molina, named a changed starting 11, than the one that started against Mumbai City FC on the previous match-week. He named a 4 man defense, with Dippendu and Aldred at the heart of the defense supported by Ashis Rai and Subhasish Bose on the Blanks. Thapa and Apuia were used as metronomes at the heart of the field. Flanks were occupied by Manvir and Liston on the right and left respectively.

Molina opted for a false nine strategy and the attack was led by Scottish magician Greg Stewart and Australian marksman Dimi Petratos. The front four was combining well to get the northeast defenders in trouble.

The match started with pace from the very beginning and the first hit on Mohun bagan defense came on just 4 minutes into the match. Alaeddine Ajaraie cut back from right wing and set it up for Mohammed Ali Bemmamer to slot it home with a thunderous strike. The strike set the momentum of the game as, both team used their pace to add to their tallies.

In the 9th minute of the match, Liston was fouled on the sideline. The resultant free-kick from Dimi was a great one, and the local lad, Dippendu rose highest to slot home the equalizer. It was his first, both in the senior colours and in the ISL. Dippendu, who is considered as one of the best upcoming young centre-backs of India showed his class. The header entered the goal through the top far corner.

Both team again engaged in tussles, but couldn’t eventually break the deadlock. Mohun Bagan, meanwhile got a free-kick in the 24th minute but couldn’t capitalize on it, but North-east got the ball and launched the counter attack and finished it using their pace on the ball. Alaeddine Ajaraie, who was the provider last time around, becomes the scorer. North-east again leads in the match. Bagan, witnessed messing up of a goal-scoring chance to conceding goal, all in a space of few seconds only.

Mohun Bagan, then increased the intensity. Greg Stewart almost came to score the equalizer only to see his attempt being cleared from the goal-line. Bagan were creating chances of their own but couldn’t eventually capitalize on those chances.

The half-time score ended 2-1 in favour of North East.

The Second half awaited with the thrill, whether the mariners will put a comeback win or the match will again disappoint the fans. Mohun bagan started going all out in the attack. And soon was rewarded with the equalizer. Subhashis Bose, flicked on a loose ball from the goalkeeper and capitalizes from close range. The match was again at equality.

To get full points from the match, Molina substituted in both of his marksmen, Jason cummings and Jamie Maclaren and added Sahal to the midfield to increase creativity. And soon, they were rewarded as Sahal assisted a brilliant ball to Cummings, who made no mistake to slot it from inside the Box.

To secure the match, Molina brought in the defensive screen Deepak Tangri to seal the fate of the match.

The match ended 3-2 thanks to the late winner from Cummings. With this win, it is sure that Mohun Bagan will gain momentum for the further matches and will surely bring out the results fans are craving for.
