One Year of MBFT: A Journey Down the Memory Lane

One Year of MBFT: A Journey Down the Memory Lane

Growing up, there are many activities which bring a spark of excitement in us. Summer Vacations are a time of kids spending those lazy afternoons on some obscure projects, maybe a rock or coin collection, or making a miniature volcano with baking soda or a simple robot.

With age, comes responsibilities and the time dedicated to such pursuits only become lesser and lesser, but by that time, many of us develop a hobby or interest of sorts which help us find an escape from mundane routines, which bring back an opportunity to relive that feel-goodness of our carefree youth.

One such method happens to be sport. A part of human culture which evokes the greatest emotions, binds communities and gives us moments to celebrate. It has wins and losses, just like life itself, and unknowingly teaches us things which no teacher or guardian ever could, of cooperation, of honesty, of commitment, of gratitude.

For people who live and breath sport, finding some work in that field brings nothing but joy; it reignites child-like enthusiasm to celebrate and contribute to the various aspects of the sport you enjoy.

One such project was started in the Summer of 2023. Four individuals joined forces to create a fan page dedicated to Mohun Bagan fans on Twitter. The name: Mohun Bagan Football Twitter, abbreviated as MBFT.

Those four were Probudhya Guchait, Arijit Bhattacharjee, Ratul Sharma and Joydeep Samanta who had their own Mohun Bagan centric fan pages on Twitter, and together started MBFT on July 27, 2023.

As we complete one year of MBFT, please allow us to take you through our short journey in these 365 days, how 4 members became 24, and did their part in making MBFT a familiar name among our beloved Mariners.

Initially Probudhya gave news updates, Arijit managed social media, Joydeep designed our website and Ratul helped maintain the website. However, they had a grand vision, thus needed more like minded Mariners who could help grow this community.

Thus, our founding members started scouring places online and offline to bring together more such passionate fans having a diverse set of skills they could channel through MBFT.

Annubrata Roy, Richik Nag, Shuvodip Koner, Sagnik Chakraborty, Sayan Ghosh and Avik Chatterjee were brought in to scale up and bring a variety of articles to our website. Today, Probudhya and Arijit have their hand at all our operations while Joydeep and Ratul are in our management roles.

MBFT started covering transfers. The breaking exclusive for Jason Cummings was posted from the 'Mohun Bagan Fan' account, before MBFT was even formally announced. Along with that, the transfer updates on Sahal Abdul Samad and Armando Sadiku were mentioned, which made MBFT a trustable source for player movement discussions.

Avik Chatterjee started a Know Your Opponents Series on all ISL clubs, covering their history, current tactics, and also a situational review of the Bagan team, and it got published religiously published throughout the first half of the 23/24 season till December.

A Belief in Bonhomie: The Story of Kerala and its Blasters, from that series still remains the biggest hit of that series has generated more than four thousand clicks.

Simultaneously, Annubrata Roy covered Mohun Bagan's AFC Cup campaign and ground events of various Mohun Bagan fan clubs, Richik Nag, Sayan Ghosh and other editors helped with match reviews, player profile discussions and analytical pieces. Press Conferences were also covered.

In the last two months of 2023, we welcomed Aryaan Banerjee, Raj Satpati, Archisman Dhar and Rishav Ray, who is our library for various historical resources related to this glorious club and his editorial contribution became invaluable for our two latest series titled 'Why Mohun Bagan', compiled by Avik Chatterjee and 'Mohun Bagan Legends' compiled by Sagnik Chakraborty, Satyaki Aditya Mitra, Probudhya Guchait, Rishav Ray and Sayan Ghosh.

Neeladri Lahiri, Prasun Mitra, Niloy Mar, Satyaki Aditya Mitra, Hrisiraj Sengupta, Soumen Chaki in the first 4 months of 2024 and more recently, Abir Chowdhury, Arpan Samaddar, Arindam Chatterjee and Riddha Chakraborty have joined us in content planning and writing, and helping manage our socials.

Due to popular demand, our Why Mohun Bagan series is also being produced in Bangla by Sagnik Chakraborty and titled 'Abohoman Mohun Bagan'. Our Legends Series till now has covered the stories of Jose Ramirez Barreto, Sony Norde, Amiya Deb, Babu Mani and Basudeb Mondal, with many many more to come.

We also have a section on the Mohun Bagan squad for every year since the inception of the club itself and the complete list of 258 trophies won by Mohun Bagan in its entire existence.

Our founding member Arijit Bhattacharjee put immense effort to ensure that we become the pioneer media group in the complete coverage of all youth activities of Mohun Bagan. We made matchday posters, put out live threads and full time updates from U9s to the Reserve team.

We mentioned the name of the goalscorers and assist makers and other standout performers of the game, courtesy of our member Soumen Chaki, Mrityunjay Das, Sudipto Banik and Vishal Upadhyay who used to cover our U13 and U15 games along with other youth tournaments.

Due to our focus on the youth, a greater share of Mohun Bagan fans online are aware of our youth players and have discussions about their abilities and development.

In this transfer window, MBFT broke the exclusives for Jamie Maclaren, Apuia Ralte, Greg Stewart and Alberto Rodrigues, and also the appointment of Deggie Cardozo to the Reserve Team. We ensured to not rush with revealing names before the signing was just a matter of formality as we never subscribe to any 'get fame quick' techniques as it can harm the progression of the deal.

Finally, in the last two months, we have been immensely successful in the Youtube space through our MBFT Adda Livestreams where we discuss on player transfers along with a variety of topics, and are planning to bring on more exciting segments once the footballing season commences. We also created Spaces on Twitter to for ordinary fans like us to have discussions and debates on our beloved club.

The efforts of Annubrata Roy, now the face of MBFT, Probudhya Guchait, Riddha Chakraborty and Arindam Chatterjee have been crucial in helping create a space where every Mohun Bagan fan can have a voice, have their queries answered and have a good time with like minded individuals.

Thus, lastly, we can't not thank each and every Mariner who have showered their blessings on us, young and old. We are thankful to our community for their suggestions and constructive criticisms. We are also indebted to the support and words of encouragement and appreciation from all the big names of Mohun Bagan fan clubs and groups.

Our efforts into Indian Football also led to us taking two interviews, one of United SC Director Mr. Nabab Bhattacharyya and Director of Mumbai and Thane Soccer Prodigies, Mr. Ashutosh Rathod.

As we step into our second year of existence, we aim to deliver more high quality content, increase our offline presence and introduce new faces and segments, both on YouTube as well as on our website. One of our new members Jishnu Paul has helped us immensely with our latest rebranding.

Currently we are 2500+ strong on Facebook, have 1700+ X (Twitter) followers, more than 3300 Youtube Subscribers and 2400+ Instagram followers. We now have dedicated Whatsapp and Telegram channels too for our loving community.

We are excited to move forward together and hope you too are in helping us reach new heights in this space. Thank you all, Yours Sincerely, Team MBFT. Joy Mohun Bagan.
