An War is Coming? What's the latest on Anwar Saga - MBFT.in

Mohun Bagan signed Anwar Ali in the summer transfer window of 2023, when, the most sought after defender of this country penned a 4 year long loan deal with the club.

In his debut campaign, Anwar helped Mohun Bagan to clinch the coveted domestic double where the Club won the Durand Cup title for the record 17th time and won the ISL League Shield for the very first time in the club's history.

But, everything was not so bright in the backend, as Anwar's entourage was planning to get a permanent deal before the original loan deal was expired and Anwar's Footballing Godfather announced,  as per new Fifa guidlines, the Anwar Ali loan deal is getting cancelled and player will return to Delhi FC.

But, the rule he mentioned, wasn't applicable in India, as, on the time of signing the loan deal, the old AIFF guidlines were followed. As per the old AIFF guidlines, any loan deal in India doesn't have a maximum duration, and, if all the parties agrees, a loan can be signed for any duration. Also, the AIFF rule (as per article 15) says, a contract between a professional player and a club may only be terminated upon expiry of the term of the contract or by mutual agreement.

In this scenario, as Marcus Mergulhao confirmed, the 4 year loan deal had no termination clause, and to a counter question, where somebody asked "Is it true that a contract is invalid if it does not have a release clause?", Marcus replied "Many contracts don't have release or buy out clauses. Players can still terminate on a just cause, which is non payment of salary for two months or more, and not playing enough games."

Anwar Ali said he wants to make the deal permanent, as he feels long term loan deals are hampering his career, but, the player should've thought the same while signing the long term loan deal with Mohun Bagan.

On 17th July, the Anwar camp reported the case has moved to PSC now as Mr. Ranjit Bajaj said “Anwar has moved to the Player Status Committee (PSC), seeking a quicker closure around his transfer. We will wait for the honourable PSC to give its decision and will abide by the same when it comes.”

Former footballer Godfrey Perera is the chairman of the status committee. When contacted by phone on Wednesday evening, Godfrey made it clear, "The matter of Anwar will be decided by the Federation, not the Players' Status Committee." - Bartaman Claims.

Bartaman also reported Federation President Kalyan Chaubey said that he was not aware of anything related to Anwar's e-mail.

As per the Sportstar, a Mohun Bagan spokesperson responded “Anwar Ali remains our player and we have registered him in the CRS (Central Registration System). There is no dispute here. He has been asked to report for training on July 19."

Club is keeping all the doors open, as they have invited Anwar to join practice from 19th July, and, they are open to discussion with the player. The club is taking all the legal measures to make sure the correct verdict is given, as, club firmly believes they are correct in this matter and the player and his agent should respect the contract they signed with the club - a source close to the development told MBFT.
