Mohun Bagan held East Bengal to a 2-2 draw in Kolkata. Player Ratings for Mariners.

The first leg of the Kolkata Derby of the Indian Super League 2023-24 ended in a draw as the scoreline read 2-2 at the end of the match. The return of Antonio Lopez Habas was marked remarkably as he introduced a high intensity football , which is not what people expected from Habas. Both teams gave their best on the pitch to give us the most entertaining Derby from the past few years. East Bengal took the leads early in both the halfs but Bagan matched everything East Bengal threw at them. A late equaliser  from Dimi Petratos earned Bagan a very important point. Vishal kaith - 7/10

Was in top form today , made many good saves and covered the goal well , Couldn`t have done much for the goals conceded . otherwise a pretty solid outing from the defending golden gloves winner.

Brendan Hamill - 7/10

Was hugely responsible for the first goal conceded but later redeemed himself by setting up the goal of sadiku with a sublime cross. Was given a new free moving role under Habas . was unfortunate to pick up a injury and get substituted. 

Anwar Ali - NA

Was returning from an ankle injury and his return was cut short to mere 12 minutes by another hamstring injury. Was partially responsible for conceding the first goal during his stay on the pitch where he allowed Nishu to move past him.

Hector Yuste - 6.5/10

Put in good yard in maintaining composure in the backline but more is expected from the experienced campaigner.

Subhashish Bose - 6.5/10

The captain was in mood today , put in hard tackles and even ran a extra mile which handed his team an extra edge . Was shifted to centre Back after Anwar`s injury.

Deepak Tangri - 6.5/10

Put in a good yard , But conceded a silly penalty which resulted in second goal of the match for the East Bengal . Was substituted in the 69th minute for Sumit Rathi.

Sahal Abdul Samad - 7.5/10

The twinkle-toed man was once again lively in his role , set up Petratos` equaliser after pressing hard on Nandha Kumar . He was handed the creator-in-chief`s duty in absence of boumous.

Anirudh Thapa - 7/10

Was very much lively in a link-up role between the defense and forwards , excelled well in support of both Sahal and Tangri.

Kiyan Nassiri - 7/10

Created a lot of trouble with his pace down the right flank. He was excellent in both of his attacking as well as his defending duties . His crosses were on point today.

Armando Sadiku - 8/10

The Albanian man showed why Habas rates him so highly . Scored the all important equaliser with a witty flick from a cross , got in the holes to create chances for the teammates. He used his physicality and shooting ability to trouble East Bengal defenders. Though he scored an important goal , he also missed out some easy ones , which may create trouble against big teams . Need to work on finishing.

Dimitrios Petratos - 8/10

'Prime Predator' , scored the all important equaliser in the 87th minute of the match. was given the role of a second striker today , where he could both create chances or score goals and excelled in that role very well. ISL is probably going to see another dangerous version of Dimi Petratos under Habas.


 

Substitutes player ratings :-

Amandeep Singh - 7.5/10

Came in for injured Anwar and put in a good shift in a senior derby match in a fully packed VYBK , was phenomenal with his runs and movements . Played as both right and left back in the match and made a remarkable impact on the team`s overall gameplay. If nurtured properly , would be an asset for the mariners. 

Manvir Singh - 6/10

Put in a good shift in the right side , but more is expected from him on the pitch.

Glan Martins - 4/10

Was in poor form today , committed many mistakes. Need to start rectifying his mistakes as soon as possible otherwise he would lose his spot in the team.

Sumit Rathi - 6/10

Came in for Deepak Tangri and settled in that left-back cum Centre-back role . Had a pretty decent match today . Made almost all moves count in his favor.

Jason Cummings - 4/10

Had no great impact today in the match . came in late as a substitute but failed to make his presence count . tried to make some runs but was marked out heavily by opponent players. Need to polish up his scoring boots as soon as possible.
