The injury of Anwar Ali has derailed the campaign of Mohun Bagan, and eventually ended the Asian dream too early. Management doesn't want a similar fate in ISL League campaign, and, as MBFT.in understands, they are in the market to bolster the central defensive ranks.
Hyderabad FC's Chinglensana Singh has emerged as a genuine option for the Green and Maroon brigade. Current Mohun Bagan management are big fans of Sana, and the deal was almost sealed in 2021-22 summer transfer window, but Manolo convinced Sana to stay at Hyderabad. Currently, Mohun Bagan have started discussions with Sana's camp again to understand the possibility of the signature in January.

Mohun Bagan lost captain Pritam Kotal, Slavko Damjanovic and Florentin Pogba in the summer transfer window, and signed Anwar Ali and Hector Yuste as new defensive reinforcement. But, with Juan's new 3 at the back approach, Mohun Bagan were always short of One More Centre Back option; and the injury to Juan's main man Anwar Ali proved fatal for the title hopes of the Century Old side. Mohun Bagan initially targeted Hormipam Ruivah in Summer,but the deal couldn't happen, now, a title challenger Kerala is not expected to release Hormi for Mohun Bagan either, so, Mohun Bagan had to change the focus. Hence, Sana Singh has emerged as a genuine option for the Mohun Bagan recruiters.
With the current struggle of Hyderabad FC on and off the field, It is expected, if both the clubs agrees, Sana will be willing to make the switch to Kolkata, however, Hyderabad so far given no indication of a compromise, and they have communicated they want to keep the player. The main reason is understood to be the transfer Ban, as Hyderabad won't be able to sign any replacement in January.
But, the Mohun Bagan management believes, if they can convince Sana Singh and Sana makes a transfer request, Bagan will be able to reach an agreement with Hyderabad to make the deal happen. Mohun Bagan have Raj/Dippendu and Sumit in the reserves, but management feels they need a more experienced centre back in the ranks, and, Sana fits the bill perfectly.
Tactically, if Sana signs, in the short term, he can fill in for Anwar, but, in the long term, Anwar and Sana can move to the heart of the defence, and Subhashish Bose can play as a left back/left wing back.
Apart from a Centre Back, Mohun Bagan is understood to be in the market for a Defensive Midfielder too, as they don't want to miss any opportunity to bring the first ISL League Shield Home.
