After winning the prestigious Durand Cup trophy, Mohun Bagan now look to shift their focus on the Indian Super League. Today Mohun Bagan head coach Juan Ferrando took part in the ISL media day held in Kolkata and answered all the queries from the media.
Juan Ferrando on Ashique Kuruniyan's injury:
On the ISL media day, when Juan Ferrando was asked about the situation of Ashique he replied: "At this moment, I don't know the situation of Ashique. He needs to be checked by the doctor and we can not make decisions before knowing what happened exactly. Obviously, all the players are very important in my squad and it's disappointing(the injury of Ashique)." He then added: "I'm very upset ( about the situation of Ashique) but it is a part of football."
Juan on winning the ISL and Durand Cup:
While talking about the ISL and Durand Cup trophy, he said, " The ISL trophy last season and the Durand Cup is the past. Past is past and our target is thinking about today and tomorrow and preparing for our first match in the AFC Cup and the ISL. We are happy(to win the ISL and Durand Cup) but I think it's time to delete this from our minds. The season is about to start and it is very important to be ready as it is a very difficult season for all the teams. So we need to do the very best every day."
Juan on Kolkata Derby & ISL trophy:
"We know the Derby is a very important match but it is just a match but winning trophies is history. We try to win derbies but our real target is winning important trophies for Mohun Bagan."
Juan Ferrando on a tight schedule:
Juan Ferrando expressed the problems he's having with the frequent matches on the ISL media day. He said, " I'm not happy because I prefer to work with the team and prepare the training but I'm also happy that I'm in a big club. When you are in a big and important club, you have this problem as you have to play a lot of matches and try to win trophies."
Juan Ferrando on who is the favourite to win the ISL:
When he was asked about the favourites to lift the ISL trophy this season, he said, " I think Odisha have very good players and they also won a trophy(Super Cup) last season. Mumbai is also a strong team and the new team of Goa with new players is good too. In my point of view, nine to ten teams are ready to fight for the first position and the top six. So it's difficult to explain which team is favourite because I think a lot of teams are ready for this season.
