Mohun Bagan SG have officially unveiled the new logo ahead of the coming football season.

In
1890, when the club was renamed as Mohun Bagan Athletic Club, an emblem
came into existence. The theme of the the emblem was Royal Bengal Tiger
resting under palm tree. This was the logo of the club during the
famous win in 1911 IFA Shield.
In
the year 1918, Rajasthan Club was established in Maidan. At that time
any club could use any logo of their choice, as there was no
registration process in that time. Rajasthan Club copied the logo of
Mohun Bagan.
By
that time, Mohun Bagan became a very famous club after the famous
victory in 1911. But, due to similarity in logo, ordinary spectators
often confused Rajasthan Club as Mohun Bagan.
Mohun
Bagan officials requested Rajasthan Club to change the logo several
times, but, there was hardly any response from Rajasthan Club. As a
result, in the early 1920's, Mohun Bagan officials decided to change the
logo to 'Sailing Country Boat' in order to maintain distinction.
Thus, the sailing boat came into existence and became the main theme of the crest.
The
club used a simplified version of the logo from that period. In the
early 1970s a modernised version of logo came into existence and club
used that in all official purposes. Though the previous version was
still present in the uniform as a stitched format.
After
gaining professional status in the new era of Indian football, the
crest of football division of the club changed from time to time due to
change of stakeholders, all the while keeping the green and maroon
sailboat a constant.
In
1998, Vijay Mallya owned United Breweries Group, entered into a
partnership with Mohun Bagan by buying a 50% stake in the club's
football division and formed a joint-venture entity named United Mohun
Bagan Private Limited on 05 March 1998.
For
the first time the club was transformed into a corporate establishment
from a society status. A new logo entitled United Mohun Bagan Football
Team Pvt. Ltd. was launched for the football team.
In
coming years, the name of the club's football division was changed to
McDowell's Mohun Bagan FC. From 2007-08 season, a new logo was launched
for the football team consisting the name McDowell's Mohun Bagan.
After
a breakaway from United Breweries in 2015, Mohun Bagan was once again
re-established as a society. From 2015-16 season, the club started to
use a very modernised logo consisting of the name Mohun Bagan Athletic
Club and the Foundation year 1889. The club still using this.
On
31 July 2017 Mohun Bagan Football Club (India) Pvt. Ltd. was created as
a legal entity, exclusively for all football activities of the Mohun
Bagan Athletic Club. A new logo was launched for that purpose
On
16 January 2020, Kolkata Games and Sports Pvt. Ltd., led by Sanjiv
Goenka, entered into an ownership deal with Mohun Bagan Athletic Club
(India) Pvt. Ltd. for its football team and formed ATK Mohun Bagan
Football Club Pvt. Ltd.
That
rebranded the football division of Mohun Bagan as ATK Mohun Bagan. The
team became official from 1st June, 2020. As a result on 15 July, 2020, a
logo was launched for the football team. Initially, the fans were happy
about the change.
But
as the season started, many unexpected incident happened. First of all
ISL highlighted the team as three time champions and they given
importance to all ATK related things. No only that the team played
wearing the black jersey of ATK without any notice.
That
incident disappeared the fans very hard and they started protesting
against the management. Many loyal fan clubs even boycotted the matches
and also protested through banners.
On
18th March, 2023, the football team crowned the Playoffs champions of
the ISL. On that day, Sanjiv Goenka announced the removal of the prefix
ATK from the next season. As a result, from 1st June, 2023 the football
section renamed as MOHUN BAGAN SUPER GIANT.
The much awaited logo launched on 3rd July, 2023 mentioning the establishment year #1889.
